Karin Landau, 1938.
After the death of their mother, Lucille and Karin remained in Lodz. Lucille managed to find a factory in which a secret school had been established for younger children. There, Karin managed to get a little extra food and schooling.

On September 5, 1942, the Nazis launched a major sweep through the ghetto, picking up those too young or too old to work in the factories. Despite putting on lipstick and rouge to disguise her age, twelve year old Karin was taken away, and Lucille never saw her again.
